@Poziomecki Do tej pory Centos to była kopia 1:1 RHELu nawet z błędami bez własnościowych elementów (loga, własnościowe toole). Dzięki wsparciu RedHata Centos był mega stabilnym i dojrzałym systemem. Wręcz nudnym ze starymi pakietami, z prehistorycznym jajkiem, ale bardzo przewidywalnym tak, że możesz skonfigurować yum-crona i nie zaglądać tam długi czas. Centos Stream to będzie RHEL 8.x + 0.1 do wersji, poligon doświadczalny RedHata z możliwymi BC w każdej aktualizacji.

 

Dodatkowo nikt zdrowo rozsądkowy nie będzie tworzył na tym swoim produktów/wspierał tego w swoim oprogramowaniu.

Super, a niedawno 8 zainstalowałem. A tu wychodzi, że 7 będzie dłużej wspierana. Pozostaje się przeprosić z Ubuntu LTS. Co prawda 5 lat wsparcia to nie 10, ale trudno. Było pięknie, ale się skończyło.

Dlaczego nie Debian?

Głównie przez czas wsparcia. Ale też przez popularność. Ubuntu to domyślny i zalecany system w prawie każdej chmurze.

Jak Debian wprowadzi LTSa z przynajmniej 5 lat wsparcia to może zmienię decyzję. Do tego czasu, pozostanie wyłączać "Message of the Day" na Ubuntu.

Nie od dzisiaj wiadomo, że łudubuntu ma jakieś dziwne pythonowe magie z landscape/juju - to było do przewidzenia dla każdego, kto zerknął jak okropnie działa tam motd (chyba od 10.04?), tak samo jak ruch IBM'a w zakresie CentOS'a.

Reasumując:

Archa też można na serwerze postawić. Problem nie jest z samym CentOS, ale również z EPEL'em - co z tego jak powstanie fork CentOS'a, jak nie będzie EPEL'a? ;)

Nie dość, że "Developer subscription" źle rezonansuje z "production systems", to jeszcze limit 16 instalacji jest jak kropla w morzu potrzeb w dobie kontenerów i wirtualek.
